SDDM Login Themes by novomente 8 comments

I must apologize for the firs command. There is a mistake; 'sudo' is written twice. The correct form of both commands is:

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sddm - Apr 11 2021
NetLogin

SDDM Login Themes by novomente 8 comments

If you are using KDE Plasma desktop, the easiest way to install the theme is from "System Settings" window, where you can go to "Startup and Shutdown" menu and from there to "Login Screen (SDDM)".

On tho bottom right of the window there are two buttons. One is: "Get New Login Screens" where you can browse and search your desired theme (NetLogin). The other is the "Install from file" button where you have to look for your downloaded NetLogin SDDM theme package and open it from the opened dialog. Both procedures will install the NetLogin to your computer. Then it will show up in the settings window and there you can select it to use it as a default.

If you are not using KDE Plasma then you have to install SDDM in your system. You can do so by opening a Terminal console and type in these commands one after another (omit the dollar sign at the beginning; it's a shell prompt):

$ sudo sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install sddm

if you do not have sddm installed yet, the installation of it will guide you through some text based windows, where you have to configure the SDDM manager. At one window you will be asked whether you would like to configure the SDDM. You have to choose . On some next window you will be asked to choose which window manager would you like to use to login by default. There you have to choose "sddm".

Then you have to manually configure some configuration files. If you wish to use the easiest way, you can install these packages in your system from a Terminal:

$ sudo apt install kde-config-sddm
$ sudo apt install systemsettings

Then you can run the configuration window from the Terminal by running this command:

$ systemsettings5

It will open the window mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial.

If you have some problems, just browse the Internet for some more specific information.

I hope you succeed.

I tried it on LinuxMint 20.1 beta. It works. Are you sure you are downloading the archive instead of installing it from the theme web site? Try to go to files section and download it manually. Then try to extract the archive to .themes folder. - Dec 23 2020
Thanks for your vote :-) - Dec 21 2020
Extract the downloaded archive to the ".themes" directory (without quotes). It is a hidden folder in your home directory (hidden folders' name start with a dot). If there is no .themes folder in your home directory then create it. After installation be careful to open "Window Manager" instead of "Appearance". - Dec 21 2020

Are you sure you are opening a "Window Manager" instead of "Appearance". Did you succeed to install another XFCE theme? Check the ".themes" folder for the OneColor XFCE theme folders. The .themes folder is a hidden folder in your home directory. - Nov 13 2020

This theme was created for LinuxMint 17 and older releases of Linux distributions. I don't know how to install the GDM theme in newer Linux distributions as they mostly use LightDM as a login screen. If you get a try on your own and succeed, please leave instructions as comment here. Tanks - Nov 06 2020

Thank you very much for your vote. And also thank you very much for your theme testing. Yes the only difference is the font size. I would like to know, which is better.

I plan to make a support for user list "the pictures with the user names", but it will take some time to implement it.

And the answer to your last question; I don't plan to make an icon theme. I was thinking about to create one but it is very time consuming and recently I am studying programming computers.

There is a chance. When I finish my current project, HiDPI fo 4k version should be my first priority.

Regards.

This GDM theme is made for LinuxMint 17 (Ubuntu 14-04) and older releases of Linux distributions (i.e. for systems older than year 2015). I don't know how to install the GDM theme in newer Linux distributions as they mostly use LightDM as a login screen. If somebody find a way how to install the theme on newer Linuxes I'll be glad if you leave a comment here with the instructions. - Aug 12 2020

Very good work. But I noticed a bug in your template. In the file named "gtk.css" there is a line which says this:

@import url("widgets.css");

but the name of the file the @import url points to is (in template folder):

"gtk-widgets.css"

The MacColor is not a Macinthosh or other Mac theme. I've only given such name to it because of it looks so pretty, like Mac themes. Anyways I'll try the beauty of squared version. But I'm afraid it would not look so nice. - Feb 19 2019

I can reduce the size of borders to 7 or 5 pixels because of the rounded corners. What size do you find usable for easy click & drag with mouse or touchpad?

Or how do you resize windows? What borders and corners do you use? - Feb 19 2019

Starlight with NTWE version

Metacity Themes by novomente 8 comments

I tried to create a XFWM version but the theme lost its nice look. Maybe in the future I create similar theme. It would not be Starlight with its gradients (btw the gradients are the problem to port them to XFWM) and the theme must have nice look to release final version to public. Thx for your support anyway. Regards, novomente. - Dec 22 2018
