another mock-up:

if it's symmetrical:
http://kimag.es/share/12057110.png (all buttons)

http://kimag.es/share/54611545.png (just the close button)

then it wouldn't look so bad when there isn't a maximize button. tell me what u think. - Jan 02 2010

should i make one like the mock-up you put up? it's do able. - Jan 02 2010
Mockup Mac-firefox-like buttons

Metacity Themes by paullinux 39 comments

then, no. it's not possible. the only way i can think of to make it work would be to not actually have any button overlap. i mean if the part coming off of the close button doesn't actually overlap it.
here:

http://kimag.es/share/11409374.png

also you could make the close button larger if you don't want the maximize button to be smaller. but that has no overlap, it can't be don any other way with metacity, i think. - Jan 02 2010

i thought that the glow was too subtle (i didn't notice it when i first tested it) so i made another version, where the colour of the eyes cycles.

http://kimag.es/share/35035362.png

do i need all the versions of size? i find the monitor i'm using now uses the small throbber, so that's the one i did.

should i upload it? or add more sizes (i don't want to have to colourize for a half hour again ^^) - Jan 02 2010

ok, i was wondering why there was 2 down arrows. i made the max button an up arrow, but don't know how to make it change when it is maximized, i'll have to look that up. here is the most recent:
http://kimag.es/share/23345537.png
the bad thing is when the close button is by itself, or just without the maximize one it looks like this:
http://kimag.es/share/31119795.png

does anyone know how to make the maximize button change?? - Jan 01 2010

i can't make the 2nd button minimize. btw, what do the buttons in firefox actually do?
can i make the 2nd button an up arrow, maximize, because it doesn't seem to be able to change the order of the buttons. - Jan 01 2010

here, i made this so far:

the end 2 buttons are good, i didn't make a third one yet, so it's using the other button.

i can't figure out how to make the 2nd button minimize instead of maximize. anyone know? - Dec 31 2009

um... i just realised that it's a little too small for my big monitor (i have a smaller pc as well) it's 1920x1080, can u make one big enough for that (i know 1920x1200 is common, that's fine)
i scaled it and it works, but the quality isn't the same. - Dec 27 2009

why is it so dark?
i thought it was all black until i saw the very dark ubuntu logo. you should make the logo a bit brighter, or have an outline or something. - Dec 21 2009

Soundwave Xsplash

XSplash Themes by Padster 16 comments

i've wanted to make one for a while, but finally figured out how to, i guess.
i made an xcf 500x250 and made 50 layers, then i did each frame.
then i made an image 12500x250 used guidelines in gimp, and put all the images in the right spot.
it all took hours, (i did 2 versions) and i think it looks pretty good. :-)

all the sizes of the throbbers are the same (500x250), do u just scale them to get them smaller?

and is there any other way to do it then cut and paste 50 images over? (eg. gimp plugin for lining up layers) - Dec 07 2009

install the package "usplash-dev"

pngtousplash is an old version, usplash-dev has it, so it should make properly now.
