This theme is very good, but after I used this theme on Fedora, there was an obvious lag when I moved up and down the boot interface to switch and start the system. How to solve it?

Very good job on the theme, looks beautiful! However after installing the theme I found out the grub menu was unchanged. I decided to install the theme after carefully reading growbags comments since I am also on fedora 34. In my case the script told me the install was successful, it' s just simply not showing up on (re)boot. Afterwards I looked at the /boot/grub2 folder and found out it created the grub.cfg file in there. Since I installed fedora in uefi mode, the directory it boots from is the efi partition and this should be the reason why grub still boots into the old grub menu, because that' s where the grub.cfg file resides (/boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg) How can I fix this? should I modify the install.sh script? If so please tell me what to modify exactly.

teraskull

Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with Fedora, so I can't say for sure what should be changed in the grub.cfg for it to pick up the theme.

ejan

But of course I understand that. Maybe @growbag can tell me what to do to make it work?

ejan

Well guess what I gave it another go after checking the /etc/default/grub file and finding out it was okay. Ran sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg rebooted and voilla the big sur grub theme appeared. Probably this does not execute well in the install script on fedora in uefi mode.

teraskull

Hm, thanks for confirming, I will try to test the script on a Fedora VM in some time.

8 After I select Linux and/or Windows partition it appears a big black box (like if it was the terminal), is there any method to remove it. I want when I click an option to do not do this transition, just boot up the system.

9 Great theme, many thanks for your work - it's much appreciated. I just installed it on Fedora 34 and ran into a few problems: 1. The install script entered a blank line in /etc/default/grub which apparently prevented the theme loading. i removed the blank line and re-ran: sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/fedora/grub.cfg, which fixed the issue. 2. The Windows entry in the boot menu displays the proper icon, but no other entries (Fedora) do. I couldn't fix this on my own, do you have any suggestion? Thanks :).

teraskull

Hi, thank you for reporting the issues. I did not test the installation on Fedora so wasn't aware of such problem. I removed the empty line creation from the script now. Regarding the grub icons, unfortunately it depends on how the entries are configured, not on the theme. You can try to fix this issue from this link: https://askubuntu.com/questions/511237/grub2-icons-question Maybe it will help. Thanks for your rating, I really appreciate it!

growbag

Wow, thanks for the rapid reply! I got the UEFI BIOS icon working from that link you gave me, but sadly no luck on the Fedora entries. I gave up because I really don't know what I'm doing and didn't want to mess up my system. It still looks great, many thanks :).

GRUB

How to install a grub theme:

  1. Extract the theme to /boot/grub/themes/

  2. Edit /etc/default/grub file. Find the line starting with "#GRUB_THEME" and change it to "GRUB_THEME=/boot/grub/themes/[THEME_FOLDER]/[theme.txt]" (replace [THEME_FOLDER] ; [theme.txt] is probably OK ; remove "[]" brackets)

  3. Run sudo update-grub
