Just tested this...Even though VLC 3.0.21-12 works on Ubuntu 18.04, this Appimage does not! it requires too high of a glibc. For universal compatibiity it should be compiled as an Appimage on Ubuntu 16.04.
its clearly says built from arch repos its the latest and greatest you wont get any newer i have a beefy setup so i can use utilize the latest packages e.g qt and gtk f you want it for ubuntu or anything else i may look at this in the future but i dont run on old out of date packages
