Thank You very much, AndreVerwijs!

10 Any chance of letting the users opt for slightly different levels of transparency for different panels (top, bottom, left, right)? For instance, I use a top panel, for which the default value in this plasma theme is quite good, but I'd like my left (Unity style) panel more transparent, while my right panel something in between. No bottom panel. :-D I hope I'm not asking too much. ;-) I have no idea how this can be implemented: using different background images for every possible panel, or putting different elements in a single image???

l4k1

Thank You very much, sadi! I really appreciate Your support. One widget is responsible for the appearance and transparency of all Panels (bottom, top, left, right): panel-background, so it is not possible to do that.

sadi

Thank you. I've actually tinkered with a couple of plasma themes that seem to get closer to this, and could only achieve two variations. One such theme is "Unity Evolution" (https://www.pling.com/p/2001737) which seems to include two panel background images in "panel-background.svgz". I've made a light version with a bit more transparent left panel. This is all I can do. How KDE Plasma uses such an image file containing different elements is a mystery to me. I can only see three variations for adaptive, solid and translucent panel options, but I thought you might know how those several themes have managed to include two panel types as well.

l4k1

Maybe it can. I'll try it, then I'll get back to you.

sadi

Thank you. Here is my desktop screenshot: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ecaJ-hwLwVI3odu7a1NKRasIpTSomrRh I just need to make the left panel (which now uses the same background with the right panel) a little bit more transparent to achieve perfection. ;-)

l4k1

Ok, I saw it. I can't do anything today, my granddaughter came. I will be free tomorrow.

sadi

You're lucky! My daughter came, but no granddaughter yet. :-D

Hi sadi, I added the V-2. Blur-Glassy-Plasma-V-2, differs from the Original version in the transparency of the panels: left panel 85%, right panel 80%, bottom and top panels 70%.

sadi

Wow, that's great, thank you! I think it would be very helpful if you can also tell how to adjust those opacity settings using inkscape or kate (whichever is easier). For instance, I might like the left panel to be a bit more transparent than 85% ;-)

l4k1

Hi sadi, Do like this: Blur-Glassy-Plasma-V-2 > widgets > open widget panel-background.svg with Kate. For the Left (west) Panel, the following lines are important: 1047 west-top, 1063 west-bottom, 1079 west-left, 1092 west-right, 1114 west-center, 1127 west-topleft, 1137 west-topright, 1148 west- bottomleft, 1162 west-bottomright. Within all these elements, find where it says: fill-opacity:0.15 and change it to 0.10 or 0.05 When you've done all that, copy that widget (panel-background.svg) and place it in Blur-Glsssy-Plasma-V-2 > translucent > widgets (that is, you delete the existing ones and place the one you changed). If I wasn't completely clear, feel free to contact me: l4k1987@gmail.com

l4k1

You can do the same with the Inkscape program, but you might find it easier this way.

sadi

Yes, it's easier, and makes more sense with Kate. It's also good idea to use unique values for each element in "panel-background.svg". So I could simply replace all instances of "fill-opacity:0.15;" and increase transparency step by step, finally ending up with "fill-opacity:0.0;" (also unique) as it seems just the blur effect will suffice for my left (Unity-style) left panel. One can even create a simple, shell script based GUI (which should also ensure that new values will remain unique) to adjust transparency of each panel this way. This should be part of default KDE Plasma panel configuration. Thank you once again.

l4k1

It was my pleasure.

sadi

I've found the others: Apple Ventura (https://www.pling.com/p/1973335), Haptic Light (https://www.pling.com/p/1503830). I could get better results by tinkering with Haptic Light.
