Description: ===========UPDATE============= This is not only idea anymore, thanks to Jan Zarnikov, who wrote Amarok Fullscreen (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=52641). Thanks, man. Great job! Implementation of this mockup can be found here: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=53231 (it's regular AmarokFS theme)
==============================
Hi! I woke up today with idea for screen saver for Amarok. I'm often listing music while doing some other stuff. I think most people doing this at least from time to time. Anyway, when I don't touch my computer, screen saver activates and even if I have Amarok window on my desktop I can't see which track is currently playing. I think it would be nice to have a screen saver that display some information about current track and its album cover. It would be also nice if it could quietly display short info about track that will be play after current one (see bottom of the screenshot).
Unfortunately I don't have programming skills necessary to write this screen saver. But I believe it should be hard to do if you use Amarok DCOP calls and ImageMagick or other graphic library (to make this cool shadow beneath the cover - see screenshot) or maybe even some OpenGL (because the "AIGLX/XGL/Compiz/KDE4" future is comming)
Some additional ideas: 1. This screen saver should be disable only by pressing specific key (for example [Esc]) 2. It shouldn't react for other keys, especially for amarok shortcuts; it should be possible to change tracks/pause them etc. without leaving screen saver
If you like this and want it on your desktop, find KDE/Amarok developers who are willing to do this or just make a bugzilla entry for Amarok/vote for it.
I think you may be pleased with Kirocker Music Display:

There is no screensaver yet, it needs a manual start for now, but it's very useful.
Check out both screenshots to get a better idea of features and simplicity is proposes.
I have already made an Amarok script that does this. It needs to be tested though. I have tried it under Mandriva 2006 and Kubuntu 6.06, and it works as it should.
I will publish it here when I get the time (probably soon...)
I like the idea, and I'm even considering doing it if I have the time (a bit busy at the moment, I'm afraid). I'll let you know when/if I have something working.
Unfortunatelly, I already did (through bugs.kde.org), and they told me that this isn't part of Amarok, but scripts for Amarok, and they don't take feature request for scripts, so I'm a little confused, because I really don't now where we should ask for this.
> Unfortunatelly
"unfortunately" (single L because unfortunate doesn't end in an L)
> they don't take feature request
"requests" (ends with S since it's a general concept)
> don't now
"know" (begins with K)
> where we should ask for thishttp://open-collab.org/mod/forum/post.php?forum=115
;-)
I like the screensaver.. maybe if made small it could even be packaged with Amarok.
"I wanna free your software", Cool!
I imagine that it would be rock or maybe punk rock. It would totally rock if somebody (preferably RMS, but I don't know if he sings ;-) ) made a song like this :D
lol, not exactly MTV material. But still nice to see/hear.
I was expecting a bit more Rock, some more revolutionizing tunes. It's quite funny that it is out there though. :D

move it to another section.. this is not the point of kde4 developers team
I'd like to have one of those out of the Box. It's so awesome.
["Erm...I hate to burst everyones bubble but"] This is different. The new mock-up is much nicer. I love the reelection.
I know, I cannot get the software, but where can I get the song of Stallman ?? Don't like to search the gnu ftp server *g* Felix
Sorry, it's only a joke. There's no such song, but maybe some day...;).
I like it, it looks nice.
There exists an Amarok script that does this: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=46488

I have now finished my KoverSS script doing this exact thing. http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=46488

If I could configure fonts & colours and maybe apply some themes....
maybe it could be better to make screensaver which would be player independent, so you could configure it whether you use xmms, amarok or noatun...
i like it.. really good idea..
good idea, bad place. I'd suggest to send a feature request to the amarok developers.

im not sure whether this is question for kde4 brainstorm
I know, but it's the best choice I could found.
Very interesting. I vote this.
I have wanted such a screensaver for as long as I can remember...

There already is one. http://www.gnu.org/music/free-software-song.html Music video: http://www.revolution-os.com/Free_Software_Song_video.mpg

Hehe, you can hear a heavy metal cover version by Jono Bacon http://www.recreantview.org/songs/jonobacon-freesoftwaresong.ogg and another one, inspired by the FSF song http://audio-video.gnu.org/audio/Fenster-Free-Software-Song.ogg
