Well, this does not have to look like my screenshot, that's just how I am using it right now.

I wanted the currently playing song displayed on my desktop. If possible with album art. I was browsing some forums (mainly arch and ubuntu) and came across several solutions. None of them worked like I wanted, so I took them, merged and optimized them, and voila, I have a script that pulls all my wanted data (and more) from amarok, and displays them. Even the cover!

The usage is amazingly easy. Just use “amarok-data …” to get the data. You can use:

* artist
* title
* album
* year
* genre
* cover

If the song is from an artist’s self-titled album, “album” can display either “Self-Titled”, or the album name. This can be set with a simple “yes” or “no” on line 3 in the script.
