Description: A GDM theme using the Crystal Icon set from KDE.
This is not really KDE but it is highly related as I beleive GDM is now the default Session manager for many people. If I wrong let me know and I will send this to Gnome-Art.
I will try to change the key icon. I first put a switch from the Aqua icon set but decided I'd better use ¨native¨ KDE stuff.
I'm pretty exited as this is my first contribution to the linux community. (Very small but I'm learning QT to make a kickass Konqueror plugin...)
For the credits: This is a tweak of the Happy Gnome Theme. As mentioned above the icons are from the Crystal Icon set. The Map is a modified screenshot of the KDE world clock.Last changelog:
Thanks to Ra1n for providing the following modifications: -Used a Cut&Paste from Redhat 8.1beta for the XML file. -Modified the colors in the pixmap tags. -Changed Disconnect Icon -Replaced System Menu with Halt and Reboot buttons
Hmm, that depends on the distro.
I use Mandrake 9.1/8.2, and they have their own (mdkkdm) which is basically a custom version of KDM.
So essentially, KDM is the default, tho you can easily opt to use GDM, or XDM (in that order).
Correct me if I'm wrong, from the screenshot(I cannot try this theme on this machine) the disconnect button will pop up a menu where you choose to reboot or halt the machine, so why don't you add a shutdown button that will directly halt the machine
This is great. I preferr GDM to KDM anyday, just because of themes like this, (well, also, for me KDM is realllyyyyy slow). You cannot get such a nice looking logon screen in KDM. That beign said, i still use kde, and this theme is great. Please post more.
The default session manager for KDE users may very well be KDM instead. Think about it. GDM is part of GNOME. If the system does not have GNOME installed, it probably won't have GDM installed. But if it has KDE installed (and this is a KDE site by the way) then it will have KDM.
Rather than apologizing for putting up a GNOME theme, just make it cross-desktop to work with KDM as well.
Unfortunatly KDM is way behind GDM as far as visual appeal goes. I will check but it seems like all I could do is publish a wallpaper to set as background for KDM.
I use GDM and GNOME is not on my laptop: only the necessary libraries are installed. I think most people have these installed since I am told that KDE is the leading desktop and GAIM the leading messenger. There's got to be a lot of GNOME programs like GAIM running on KDE. (I personnaly prefer Kopete even though it is really unstable even in the latest release)
PS: donṫ hesitate to bash my head if I say stupid things. I know I've got a lot to learn.
Well, you're not going to match up themes exactly between GDM and KDM, as they have two completely different looks and feels. I won't comment on which is better, because different people will want different things.
But you could make some kdm config files to set the background, color scheme, widget set, fonts, etc.
Actually I might not have expressed myself appropriatly.
I did put all GTK apps in the GNOME packet.
GDM like GAIM only needs the GTK libraries (not GNOME).
(I only installed GNOME recently for testing purposes)
Sorry

Not sure if that is possible but I will check.
AFAIK is possible the default theme for RedHat 8.1(beta) has it, maybe I will try to do it(butI've never modified a gdm theme!)
I've done it is very easy to do I tried to post the modified version yesterday but I've got some connection problems, maybe I will try tonight

because it is using Crystal icons. I can imagine kde users want to know about this GDM theme because it blends perfectly with KDE. keep it up Fab
