Description: A javascript useraction, which converts either file names or their content or both from one to another character encoding. It processes all selected files and directories in the active panel (for the directories, recurse their content). You can select, whether a recoded copy is created or if the file is moved (there is no warranty, so don't test move on any important data)
There are two variants (both using the same GUI and algorithm) - one uses iconv and the other uses GNU recode. (Some encodings are supported by only one of these tools). In case of recode, it is possible to select even unix/dos/mac newlines, to use base64 or quoted-printable, or create hex dumps.
Requirements: You need krusader compiled with javascript support. Action was tested on Krusader 1.70.1 and cvs20061105 and KDE 3.5.5. It may or may not run on older sw. You need iconv or GNU recode intalled.
Installation: copy the files recode.ui and recode.js to ~/.kde/share/apps/krusader/js. Under the menu UserAction->Manage User Actions..., use "import useraction" and select the krusader-recode.xml file.
Customization: By default, mostly encodings used in central Europe are there in the menu. You can either write the name of any other encoding in the combobox, or you can edit their list at the beginning of the recode.js file. By default, actions are ran in the konsole, so as to view the progress, you can switch it off in useraction editor.Last changelog:
1.0: initial version 1.1: (26.1.2008.) fixed problem with UTF-8 or custom charset in recode variant 1.2: (31.1.2008.) explicitly cd to srcDir; it was not working, when it was run with a working direcotry different than the one in actual panel.

Will be available in the Krusader-1.90.0 release. Thanks! http://www.krusader.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=1989
That's really great! Just what I've been looking for. I always forget the command for recode. :-)
