Description: Hope you like these ideas. I would love to write more, but thought I'd see if they are popular first.
I currently have sound files for:
SYSTEM NOTIFICATIONS *Startup *Shutdown x2 *Very Serious Error *Critical Message *Warning Message *Something Special Has Happened *Information Message *Question Asked *Selected File Cannot Be Opened For Reading/Writing *End Of The List Of Matches Reached *Trash Can
KMAIL *New Mail
KOPETE *Contact Online *Contact Offline *Message Received
6These sound great! Most of them are not really great choices for use in a UI, but they're fun to listen to, and that's worth something too. Unfortunately, the theme is incomplete, and it wasn't packaged as per the Freedesktop.org standard (hindering its use in modern systems); although I'm guessing said standard didn't exist back when OP made these. While I won't personally be using these sounds in my system, I do still want to thank OP for making these because I actually really enjoyed listening to them, particularly "startup_1".
Linux is all about freedom. Freedom of choice and speech.
7-Zip is an open source alternative to propriotry software such as rar and zip. We should support it's usage.
Not to mention in the post before yours someone has gone to the trouble of providing a Wikipedia link which explains how to use it.
So install 7-zip and turn that frown upsidedown ")

Hello,
Just to let you know that in 5 weeks time I will have finished my post grad course. So... will have plenty of time to make more Twinkles :D
If you have any particular requests, give me a message and I'll see what I can do.
I have sorted out a server too (thanks to Simon), so things should start improving in terms of file formats.
In the meantime, feel free to join the 'rar sucks' debate. It's getting quite hot and feisty ;)
Just to let you know that I have made some more twinkly sounds.
Thanks to everyone that has emailed/commented/downloaded/rated/generally been lovely.
Big thanks to Simon Bell for all the help and advice.
I am in the process of securing server space... so keep checking for updates :D
Oh, and... I will compress as a Tar.gz too. I don't want to use sucky things.
I totally agree here. If you want to reach the majority of the users here (open source/free software people), don't use proprietary file formats. Although there is an open-source variant of unrar, only works with RAR version 1 and 2, use a free (as in speech) format.

This sound theme doesn't conform to the Freedesktop.org sound naming conventions, nor is there a index.theme file. How do we go about installing it?
Very much like Paul Spaeth! I love Paul Spaeth, and I think you will too. Prelude to a Dream!!
Lovely!
tahts far the coolest and cutest soundset ever :)
Thank you :) That has cheered me up!!
I'd like to try these sounds, but I don't know how to extract this kind of file. What program shall I use to do this?
*.7z is a 7-zip archive. There's the Windows version of the extractor at http://www.7-zip.org/ or the *nix version with packages for several distributions at http://p7zip.sourceforge.net/ Additional information can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7-Zip
is it cool to put your submission in an archive format that a lot of people don't use? Kinda like a secret handshake or something?

Most distributions have p7zip in their repo's. it its the POSIX version of 7zip. It integrates with most archival programs
3 words, "highest compression ratio"!
That's really pretty nice! --- Das ist wirklich klasse!

Use Tar.gz !!!!
No, .tar.gz sucks in terms of compression (only sotres things), if you want COMPRESSION use 7z
What are you talking about? tar.gz uses gzip compression, hence the .gz extension. If you want better compression, use tar.bz2 (bzip)
yeah i dont know what hes talkin about either, RAR works good across any platform too and has great compression.
rar is nonfree.
