Description: Been trying to get this look for a while now.
I used GDM themes RPanther Milk for the titlebars and RPanther3 for the controls.
The icons were found on http://www.jonmega.com/modules.php?name=Downloads and they replaced icons in a theme I already had working.
The bottom bar is the GDesklets modded-starterbar (available from http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/).
The top bar is just a 1600x28 image on a normal Gnome panel, but with drawers and custom menus without their icons. It takes some time to configure, but it looks nice in the end. The only problems with it are: - There is only a square box the size of the drawer to click in - Some of the menu items had icons that I could not locate and delete - The title doesn't hilight when clicked. - The font for the text is wrong, I'm sure. If anyone can offer me any guidance on this, I'd be grateful!
XCompMgr and Transset are used to get the shadows, fade in/out of windows/menus and the translucency on the GDesklets at the side, GAIM and XMMS at the top. Problem with my XCompMgr is that I can enable it in XOrg, but then I lose the ability to play games. I hope this gets sorted soon.
Any comments are warmly welcomed. I wouldn't recommend this method because it is such a botch-job!
hi there. Could you please explain me how to put in my top panel bar, the application internal menu like you have in the screenshots? I am referring to the menu File, Edit, View, etc...
As I put in the description, the text on the top bar isn't a link to a menu, it's just a 1600x28 image I madein Gimp. I then put in a custom drawer (see Add to Panel, Drawer) which contained all the programs. Very bad way of doing it and I wouldn't recommend it ^_^
can you please tell me how you moved the minimize, maximize and close (- + x) buttons from right side to left side in GNOME?
I'm using GNOME 2.12 and struggling to do that. please help me.
thanks
Will someone, preferably umboody, explain to me What In The Hell this theme has to do with Ubuntu?
Ubuntu is just another distribution, that happens to use Gnome as a default desktop!
I can empathize with people that create themes and wallpaper/splashes and label them "* Ubuntu *", because they contain or relate to the Ubuntu project. But the kind of usage seen here, seems to come from nothing but ignorance.
I was merely trying to show people what could be done with Ubuntu. I was surprised how easy it was to achieve this look in Ubuntu, especially for a 16 year old such as myself. I thought I may as well include my distribution with this screenshot, I know its the same Gnome as most people, but the tools and accessibility to access them in Ubuntu made this task much easier.
I agree with Toby. And, god, I hate to be negative, but it doesn't take a whole lot. Just installing a few themes, for Firefox, GTK, icons... And the GTK Mac Menu applet (google) would give you the real menu on the panel instead of having to use drawers to imitate the appearance. I'm 14, and I make a lot what I use to customize my desktop from scratch in the GIMP or Inkscape. You should try..... it's really..... satisfying, when it looks good at the end :)
I'll be updating screenshots of my desktop soon incase you want to chastise them. I feel like I deserve it :/

What is the application on the far right that has the RAM info, interface info, Weather info, etc?
They are from the SideCandy series of GDesklets, available from http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/
