I use Mandrake and on installation it found the modem and recommended I got some sort of microcode called "mgmt.o" This is actually a windows system driver for this modem but it is called "alcaudsl.sys" Just rename this file "mgmt.o" and place in the speedtouch folder, in my case this was /usr/share/speedtouch then run your internet connection wizard and select your modem Alcatel. It may require a reboot.

Where did you get the drivers for this modem? I have it too, but I can't get it working.
