HOW TO INSTALL IT
-------------------------

First method:
1) Find the folder of the icon theme that you are using (/home/[you]/.icons/[theme]).
2) Just rename the file "start-here.png" in the folder "24x24"/"32x32"/"48x48" (better) to "start-here.png.backup".
3) Copy the matching picture of your distribution in this folder and rename it to "start-here.png".
4) Reload the icon theme in gnome-appearance-properties.
5) Set the height of the panel which is using the main menu at 24/32/48px.

Second method:
1) Launch "gconf-editor" and open this following path: "apps/panel/objects/object_X" where X is the number which has "menu-object" as value of "object_type" key.
2) Then, in "custom_icon" property, write the path of one of the icons.
3) Check also "use_custom_icon" property.

Hello. I'm a begginer with ubuntu 10.04. Can you me tell how to install the buttons for the custom menu bar please?

hellion0

Is there a chance a button for Xubuntu could be added in the next release?

libihero

I can't get the icon to go past the panel...

LucasNz

me neither... please help?

Really nice icons! I especially like the blue ones and the glowing look of them. I'm currently using it with GnoMenu - looks great.

HellHavoc

A bit offtopic but still > what theme are u using in the second image (window decorations).

Robico

After rescaling to small size they look crappy.

Cisoun

You're right! They were originally made for large panels but I'm already remaking these icons (to be released for Christmas). I'll see if I can do something for smaller sizes. Thanks!

candykiller

For some reason when I put the image on my panel it ended up making my panel HUGE. Is there anyway to resize the image to something a little smaller? this is what it looks like right now http://i36.tinypic.com/90r8n7.jpg Please help on this issue :)

Cisoun

Just change the height of your panel. (Right-clic on it and open "Properties")

candykiller

I've tried this but it seems to have no effect on the icon. The Size is set to 24 pixels after I restart my X server but the bar is still showing on a very large scale due to the size of the sphere. When I try changing the pixel count it doesn't allow me to change it any smaller.

Cisoun

Have you tried to resize the icon with Gimp? (If you use my picture as the background of your panel, you better have to put it at the bottom of your desktop. ;) )

Korlis

These are absolutely great. However, I am lost as to how you got the task bar to look like that. Could you please enlighten me?

Cisoun

Set the height of your panel to 50px then, change his background with this picture: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/4339/panelmi6.png Now, if you want to change the icon of the start-here: 1) Launch "gconf-editor" and open this following path: "apps/panel/objects/object_0". 2) Then, in "custom_icon" property, write the path of one of the icons. 3) Check also "use_custom_icon" property.

Korlis

Thanks. Looks awesome, best start icons I've seen yet.

odkKoma

"Find the folder of the icon theme that you are using" I'm using the Human default theme. It's not under home. Where can I find it? Is there a way to use the Circle start without sudo command then?

Cisoun

You can also launch gconf-editor and open apps/panel/objects/object_0. Then in custom_icon, write the path of one of the icons. And don't forget to check use_custom_icon. ;)

ticoon

I don't understand, it seem that because the size of the icon is 128X128 which is big, when I change the start button my panel is five time bigger??

Cisoun

No, it will fit to the panel. :)

ticoon

See the screenshot I am using ubuntu 7.10, gnome 2.24.1 http://i36.tinypic.com/90r8n7.jpg

this will sound a ridiculous question, but I wasn't successfull installing this manually. Anyway, I just want to know how I do install the icons to the .icons folder using the terminal commands? Once I tried to extract the ubuntu icon to that folder, nautilus tells me I don't have the permission to do that...help? BTW, excellent icons! keep up the good work!

Cisoun

Try this: "sudo chmod 755 -R ~/.icons/*" Then copy the selected icon as I wrote. :)

you can also open nautilus or what ever program you use to view your files. Navigate to your home directory hit CTRL H. (That will show hidden directories and files.) Making sure that you have renamed the circle start button to start-here.png. Then cut and paste that new start button into the same directory as start-here.png that is in your theme. If you are using a default theme that comes with your disto that is located in the /usr/share/themes/ directory. If you have to put it in /usr/share/themes/ you will have to do sudo cp filename /usr/share/themes/_your_theme_. Hope this helps.
