Description: Since my last near-crystal GDM theme helped a few (going up to 82% !!) I thought I would make a GDM theme that has KDE3.1 written all over it. Thanks to all those who voted good on the worldmap GDM theme. I hope this sends a message to KDM developpers as to what needs to be done. ;-)
This uses the crystal icon theme and the default KDE 3.1 background.Last changelog:
Sorry no real update: I corrected a typo in the above text and forgot this would show the whole projcet as being updated.... :-)
Okay, I have to ask:
how did you take a screenshot of the GDM login?
I've been trying to get a shot of my KDM login for a while now, but keep hitting a brick wall.
What's wrong with a GDM theme now and then? It _does_ look good, and this one themes it to look like KDE's best!
Though to complete the KDE 3.1 look, the background should have been default_gears.jpg rather than default_blue.jpg.
...of this debate I would like to say I'm sorry to have offended some of you.
1) I checked out the TODO list on KDM and took a look at the source.
It seems that creating a fullscreen "GDM like" (that's what it says in the TODO) is on the list of things that would be nice to do.
I also noticed the KDM developpers seem to be working with GDM to have standard/common config files.
My hope is that this means GDM themes will be compatible with KDM some day.
2) After looking at the source I can't do it myself.
3) Judging by the quality of all KDE apps I'm sure KDM will come to surpass GDM.
4) Until someone does this I think it is reasonable for any eye-candy loving person to use GDM.
(if your reading this on KDE-LOOK than you are one)
5) This debate has already been debated on the worldmap GDM theme.
The conclusion I beleive was:
****************************
this is KDE related since it helps incorporate a widely used app into KDE (just like Geramik)
****************************
6)Thanks to all who supported this theme by downloading it and voting for it. :-)
Then also Mouse Cursors, GKrellm themes, Licq themes, GTK themes, IceWM Decorations, K-Jofol Skins and Kaim Skins (since these are just skin loaders for skins for other applications) and Wallpapers without gears, konqi or KDE on it must dissappear.
There won't be very much left for this site.
Anyway... I can read "Eyecandy for your KDE Desktop", not "Eyecandy for KDE-only applications". I don't know what you define as desktop, but for me it is everything I use on my KDE Desktop, including applications like Gimp or Mozilla.
Doesn't it say: 'kde-LOOK' - the LOOK of KDE ?
If someone like to make his gnome like kde, then he should be able to look here and find his stuff, shouldn't he
this would be ok if this were a general GUI site, but WHY THE HELL ARE THERE MORE AND MORE GDM THEMES?!?! Can you not read the part of the title that says "KDE"? And no G does not stand for KDE in GDM. Lay off the frikin Gnome crap.
hey, check the menu on the left, under themes/styles. there's even "GTK". and, under that there's "IceWM".
does this really mean, people are using other than pure KDE apps?
oh dear..

Because unlike KDE, GNOME developers put a lot of time into GDM so it became really beautiful and themeable, unlike KDM. KDM should have a new mode, where everything is themeable. A full-screen mode where eye-candy is the top priority. You know, like in movies, lots of animation and maybe even a little beeping. ;)
There are more and more GDM themes poping up because GDM is becomming the Login Manager of choice for many Linux users. It's very customizable which if you haven't noiced is the one things that most KDE users prefer. Also, KDE-LOOK isnt a KDE only site. 95% of the content is all KDE, but as a linux user (PC user different from the norm, willing to try another operating system to determine if ther is something better or perhaps just different from windows), you should be a little more accepting of quality work, regardless of whether it is a native part of the KDE desktop manager. If you were to see a 20 dollar bill laying on the side of the road, would you not pick it up and use it just because it wasn't yours originally. GDM is much the same. It may not be native to KDE, but it is very useful. Kill all of that KDE only close minded stuff and recognize a good product when it's available.
I still use GDM -- there is no reason not to. Although I don't use the full screen versions (though they are really nice visually) I like the face-browser -- and that you can set up your own face icon from outside the login manager. (I saw this was changed in KDM for KDE 3.1 but I have yet to move to 3.1 to confirm.)
Point is, though, GDM does what it needs to do and it looks nice. Yes, perhaps most of the stuff on kde-look is meant to be for KDE, but if a GDM theme is made to look like KDE (Crystal in this case) then what is the problem?
i don't know about yours, but my compiler is burning... its been stuck on compiling KDE from CVS for 2 weeks now and its literally starting to smell like burnt rubber in my room.
I like Gnome, I just switched to KDE for a while, because I wanted to have some change in my computer-life. Change is good. And your comment is just like Gnome developpers and -users are criminals.
Have a life
... and this theme looks great, especially for people using RedHat 8, want a fully KDE Linux and don't know how to change their loginmanager
(btw: for those who don't know how to do that, but like to: in /etc/sysconfig/desktop : put only 2 lines in it:
DESKTOP="KDE"
DISPLAYMANAGER="KDE"
and restart X :-)

I used Xnest
Looks good but it doesnt look crystal enough to me. I made my own to fit my needs: http://themes.kde.org/content/show.php?content=6670
Looks fantastic! Thank you.

yes, GDM is much nicer looking than KDM, but I still wish this site would stay completely KDE oriented.
