This is the best menu for KDE I have seen. Recently I have started trying to tweak kdesktop (I added a pictures, and video folder to the "desktop" tab) however I don't know how to link it so that when I click videos it goes to the videos folder. Does anyone have any ideas of how to do that, or where the code is written in the source so I can do it myself?
I have a chekinstall-made Kubuntu package for this applet lying around here. Is anyone interested?
Is there a way to replace the text with icons? It really does not look good on huge kickers (mine has a heigth of 72) and takes up too much width.
Everything seemed to compile OK, but I can't figure out how to launch the new menu bar. Forgive me if I missed something obvious.
I got the same problem here. Did you discover how to launch it?
Hmm, I had to install libkonq4-dev in order to compile it, but then it was only a matter of adding the "KDesktop Menu" applet to Kicker.
hi when i try to install it, doing make i get the following error: menu_desktop.Tpo"; exit 1; fi menu_desktop.cpp:35:33: error: konqbookmarkmanager.h: No such file or directory menu_desktop.cpp: In member function 'virtual void MenuDesktop::initialize()': menu_desktop.cpp:172: error: 'KonqBookmarkManager' has not been declared make[2]: *** [menu_desktop.lo] Fehler 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/ciagin/bin/kdesktop_menu-0.3/src' make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Fehler 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/ciagin/bin/kdesktop_menu-0.3' make: *** [all] Fehler 2 im using opensuse 10.1 with kde3.5.5 thx

Hi. I compile Kdesktop-Menu under a Mandriva 2007 and under a FreeBSD unix 6.1, too. I create patched tar.gz and you can download it from my web site a look to screenshots, are beutifull !!! There are sources: http://skywaker.7crows.net/ftp/kdesktop/kdesktop_menu-0.3.tar.gz There are screenshots: http://skywaker.7crows.net/ftp/kdesktop/snapshot-kdemenu1.png http://skywaker.7crows.net/ftp/kdesktop/snapshot-kdemenu2.png http://skywaker.7crows.net/ftp/kdesktop/snapshot-kdemenu3.png Thanks and thanks to author for this project... I have one wish... Is palned implement kdesktop-menu to KDE 4.0 ???
Hi! This is definitely the greatest improvement I have found on this site. It made me love KDE again and stop thinking about gnome! Still, I have a problem. I feel that I don't have all of the options enabled in my Kubuntu Edgy. In actions, I can only find "switch user" "save session" "lock session" and "logout", while in the Desktop menu, "Personal folder" which doesn't work, "Documents" which opens my home folder and "Media". Have I done something wrong during compilation? Keep up the good work!
the access to personal directory doesn't wok under desktop option
kdesktop_menu-0.3-lotus101351.i586.rpm at http://home.carlet.be/raoul.linux/ under download section nice ! ! ! !

Nice applet. I've been looking for something like this for a while now. Would it be possible to have the desktop submenu show all places that show up in the sidebar of the save/open file dialogs? If files are open/saved to those places frequently enough to warrent having shortcuts then it would make sense to have access to them from that menu. Also, if possible, could you fix the applet to take up all vertical space in the panel. As it is the buttons have about 4 pixels of dead space above them. And last, this applet doesn't play well with vertical panels. Would it be possible to have the menus stack on top of each other, instead of being a horizontal line? Thanks for the great work so far!
Thanks ever so much for updating this great program. I did notice one (small) bug: under the switch users menu, the keyboard shortcut reads "CTRL+ALT+7", but really ought to be "CTRL+ALT+F7".
Haha, thanks for the info. I've fixed the error!
and what about favorites in programs menu? can you add it? it would be great cause this this is really nice aplet.., my default now :)
- Right click on the panel and choose "Configure Panel" - Go to the "Menus" tab - Put a checkmark next to "Bookmarks" - Click "Apply" and "Ok" - Right click on the applet and choose "reload configuration" Hope this helps
sorry, my mistake, actually i was thinking about something like in kmenu (on the top), you know, 5 or more most popular (clicked) programs or maybe extend your Default programs tab for more than 2 programs and it would be great to be able change icon for those programs cause i dont see any when i put eg. Firefox...
The chances of putting custom programs up there will be slim. If you wanted to, you could just edit the menu and put two programs up top that you want. The top favourites I may include though. About the Firefox icon. Does Firefox have an icon in your Kmenu (usually Internet->Firefox)? The icon is pulled from there so if you change the icon in the Kmenu, it should update the default browser thing
Really nice work :) And for all Gentoolers out there: kde-misc/kdesktop-menu-0.3.ebuild # Copyright 1999-2006 Gentoo Foundation # Distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License v2 inherit kde DESCRIPTION="Gnome-like KMenu-Replacement." Thanks for sharing the ebuild. It's been awhile since I've used Gentoo, but I believe it should have: need-kde 3.5 line? Perhaps not, I haven't used Gentoo for awhile.
This was the only thing I liked about Gnome! Thank you sooooo much.
