I've been using this feature in SuSE 8.2/9 and it comes with kde 3.1.4.
Are you sure? I was thinking about doing this, too. And I use SuSE. But I didn't know how to separate this from the complete kdebase package. Do you have only kasbar or even missing rectangles and title what this patch is refering to? regards

That looks really cool. Is there any way to make KasBar a Kicker applet instead of an external panel? that would be a GREAT taskbar replacement.

Just patch the source for kasbar. If you don't have it you can get it from the KDE website.
