Description:
I usually use konqueror for browsing too (it is a lot improved recently).
In the same line I placed the navigation buttons, location bar and search bar. But when I resize the window that line is splitted in two, with a loss of usable vertical space (see Figure).

I don't know why this happens, it seems that the location bar tries to be not shorter than a certain amount.
Well, that amount is much more of what needed to type in any web address!

Somebody smart knows a patch for that?

You can remove the bar with the navigation buttons and add the buttons to the location bar... Disadvantage: When for example a kpart (like the one from kpdf) needs to be loaded inside konqueror you can't see the icons that come with the kpart because they appear to the bar that originally contains the navigation buttons. And when I try to add the address bar to the bar that contains the navigation buttons (kde/konqueror 3.4), the address bar is not shown at all for some reason... Dennis

ok, it is fair to write "gg search-this" in the location bar. Even better than the search bar because I can choose the engine on the fly! (wikipedia-wp, yahoo-yh, etc.) I ask you guys if is normal that, when I type in my location bar (for example) "www.website.com" it reports the error "Malformed URL www.website.com" I need to type "http://www.website.com" to make it work!! Is it normal? (I don't think so)

use konqueror quick filter: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=22720 run this: tar -jxvf 22720-konq_quickfilter.tar.bz2 -C ~/.kde and restart KDE session. The location bar automatically resizes.

You can remove the searchbar and use smartbooklets directly in the location bar. For example, if I want to search for "dinosaurs" in Google, I simply type "gg dinosaurs" in the location bar and... voilà! I'm directly taken in the Google results pages for "dinosaurs". No searchbar needed! It can also work for many search engines (for example: "ig dinosaurs" will search Google Images for... dinosaurs images!) and much more. To view and/or edit your smartbooklets, go in Configure Konqueror-> Web Shortcuts. Bye,

It's not "gg dinosaurs" (as in FF) but "gg:dinosaurs".

Thank you guys very much. It seems to work for the location bar now. I tried with the search-bar too but I can't add it to the Main-toolbar. I really not use the search bar very much, but if there's any hint... ;)

This used to bug me too. As a workaround, I customized my location toolbar to include only the buttons/actions I wanted from the main toolbar, then just turned off all but the location toolbar.

Put everything on the "Main Toolbar": the arrows, home, stop, reload, etc, and the "Location bar" (the entry field). This way, it can't be split in two lines. For some reasons (distro, KDE, whatever), you may have to actually remove the entry field from the "Location Toolbar" to be able to put it elsewhere --or it won't show up.

I had this same problem! I found that it can be fixed by hiding the navigtion toolbar and adding the action buttons to the location toolbar. I hope this helps. ~Timothy
