Description: Glow Ibex is a GTK theme based on the Aurora and Clearlooks engines. It's meant to provide a pleasant user interface, using Ubuntu's traditional universe of colors in order to create a warm athmosphere.
The idea to create Glow Ibex appeared after I developed my Glow suite. After creating the previous 16 variations of the theme, I decided I should do something inspired both in the idea of a darker theme for Ubuntu, especially New Human, and also with a more feasible approach (using what the current GTK engines can already do) to what was presented at WillWill's famous mockup. To me, a default theme for Ubuntu should look smooth, be essentially based in soft gradients and also look friendly, warm, inviting, capable of awakening the user's curiosity about the new world to which Ubuntu is a great *open* door. Brown as the base theme is a good idea, but I feel that it should be toned so that the gradients of the widgets can be associated with attractive, even delicious textures (I'm thinking chocolate here, or coffee, for instance), and orange should be boldly assumed as a highlight color, which enriches the surrounding tones. I also feel that the light golden tone of the windows' background is less tiring on the eye that mere white, and that the whole set of colors is a good compromise between dark and lighter tones. I'm trying to reproduce a certain feeling of being "home". Definitely, an introduction to what Ubuntu means, since the origin of the word, and even today, among the wonderful community of people united by great ideals.
Obviously, Glow Ibex isn't branded in any way, and it isn't limited to the Ubuntu users. It's available to all, regardless of their choice of a GNU/Linux flavor.
That said, Glow Ibex is obviously not closed to new developments and improvements. It might and likely will be updated in order to get better and better.
Important: In case the download link isn't clear enough, this archive includes a GTK theme and a Metacity correspondent. The wallpaper is not mine, it's from Ether, on DeviantArt. And the icons are only a slight modification of GNOME-Colors, from perfectska.
hi, really perfect theme, but there is a bug with the metacity part of it: top rounded-corners don't have an outline and this is awkward and annoyning :(
would you fix this? thanks a lot..
great theme indeed, but why my controls look a bit edgy and sharp? the screenshot shows them round-cornered and smooth. how do i get it work, and where do i find those icons you use? thanks!
well... i managed to solve it by simply installing aurora package. thanks for not rtfm-ing me :)
but still, these icons are quite bit different from the default gnome icons. where do i get them?
Yes, indeed the solution was in installing Aurora. My description of the theme mentions the necessary engines.
As for the icons, my description also said that they are a set by perfectska, called GNOME-Colors. It's the piece of artwork with the best ratings at the moment here at this website. Here's the link: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/GNOME-colors?content=82562
The only modification I made was the Refresh button. I replaced the original Tango-like one by its equivalent from the Elementary theme (I changed its hue to orange, of course).
Probably the best colors I've seen yet for Ibex, which is a theme. I think the look of Sonata is very good, as well as Nautilus in details view, however Nautilus in icon view looks like cheap paper. This can be fixed my using a custom background from Edit>Backgrounds and emblems. But I do feel the same with other apps like Rhythmbox for instance. It's just too much which get in the way.
It might be I'm asking of too much. I'm not sure how much you can do with GTK..
Looking forward to your updates :)
The engines are mentioned on the very description of the theme. Please give it a read.
Clearlooks comes by default with the GNOME environment. As for Aurora, it's available to be compiled right here on the OpenDesktop.org websites. Right here: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Aurora+Gtk+Engine?content=56438
Some other GTK themes also provide a DEB package with the engine, to be installed in Debian-like distros (including Ubuntu). The LUX theme is a good example. I'm not sure whether the engine was packaged on RPM too, by someone else.
You did a really great job with this. Maybe the best WillWill Ibex yet.
If you have time to answer, the colour of my text in Terminal is light brown which is very hard to see. In your screenshot it is white. Any ideas?
Thanks so much!
P.S. - I am curious about the wallpaper too
The menubar text is black on gray, making it hard to read. I thought that was just the old Firefox issue (solved), but I get the same thing in Evolution and other apps.
Other than that, beautiful theme!

I've never liked Ubuntu's use of brown and orange, but you made it look very good. Is there any way to make the sliders a little bigger, they're tiny.

nice, but some text is too hard to read. please make dark brown text darker, and make light brown text lighter.
Good features and colors, it's the best Ibex ever seen. The Windows icon could be avoid (even thought I don't have taskbar)
You did a really great job with this. Maybe the best WillWill Ibex yet. If you have time to answer, the colour of my text in Terminal is light brown which is very hard to see. In your screenshot it is white. Any ideas? Thanks so much! P.S. - I am curious about the wallpaper too
