I was playing with Inkscape and ended up with this.I included a transparent version so you can easily change the colours in Gnome, KDE or whatever suing the background colour/gradient

Very nice indeed. A wallpaper that "stays in the background", and is not screaming for attention. Just like a wallpaper should do!
