I hate to be such a nay-sayer, but many Christians around the world don't consider the cross to be a Christian symbol. Thinking of it as a gallows is much closer to the truth...no matter how ornamented it might be.
"Cursed is anyone who hangs on a tree" and all that.
Just a thought.
