We could be gaining more ground for F/OSS as a whole if it weren't for petty OS wars. BSD is better in some aspects, but hardware support and software availability are what draw people to Linux. The tearing down isn't necessary, but improvements upon Linux and *BSD should be. If you don't think something works right, fix it (if possible; we can't really fix Windows ;) or leave it alone and go for something else, please.
