Description:

This is an enhanced KAboutDialog which gets developers' data from openDesktop.org, enables direct interaction with the development team and can be used in any KDE application.

This helps in presenting Free Software apps as more "human", because it shows (through their profiles) that there's real people working on the program.

This first implementation is based on Amarok, but there's no reason why it can't be used with any other KDE-based app. For now, it gets some data about the developers from openDesktop.org through the Attica library, like location, irc channels, favorite artists and profile url, and allows users to directly visit a developers profile.
Possible future developments include the possibility to contact the team members, adding extended location data or grabbing more data from openDesktop, like interests, likes, dislikes, etc.

As this is part of an app and cannot be executed independently, and is still a fast moving work in progress, there's no point in publishing a tarball.

This dialog is already integrated in Amarok's master branch on Gitorious, your distro might provide unstable packages built from git, or you can manually get the sources and compile them with this guide http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/2.0_Development_HowTo. You can also use nightly builds from Project Neon: http://amarok.kde.org/de/node/485
You can track my work on this about dialog on my Gitorious page http://gitorious.org/~teo.

Changelog:

24/8 Added support for openDesktop.org data of non-author contributors ("Thanks to" tab) and some fixes. Added frames around avatars that weren't shown under Oxygen.
06/9 Major refactor for greater speed and reliability. Fixed some issues on download timeout. Added a new openDesktop.org icon, by artist Lee Olson. Moreover, the new OCS API version removes the authentication requirement.
09/9 Updated the ExtendedAboutDialog to use a new snapshot of the Attica library and made it provider-independent (also thanks to the recent changes in Attica by Eckhart Wörner). Fixed some minor bugs.
14/9 Size and layout fixes.

I just discovered the new about dialog in Amarok yesterday and thought "hey that's neat!".

Today I then saw the OpenDesktop announcement.

Congrats for the first price!
