Description:

Bangarang is a media player for KDE. The name comes from the Jamaican word for noisy, chaos or disorder.

Feedback and patches are definitely welcome. Packaging contributions are also welcome. I only ask one thing: please be respectful. I do this in my spare time and, as such, I'd like to keep my motivation up.

In addition to providing comments, users are invited to use the Knowledge Base tab at the top of the page to ask questions or post tips that might be helpful to others.

The source code is maintained on http://gitorious.org/bangarang and anyone interested in helping is certainly welcome.

Note: I've tried do as much as I can to reduce bugs but if you encounter any please feel free to report it.

Please report bugs to http://code.google.com/p/bangarangissuetracking/issues/list

Thanks much for your help!

Requires:
- KDE 4.3 or later with full set of dev packages including nepomuk and soprano.
- Taglib 1.5 or later.
- A functioning nepomuk repository, with a sensibly speedy backend (like sesame or virtuoso) for full functionality.

I'm developing this on Kubuntu 9.10.

Note that version 1.0 is "The Basics". New features will be considered for the 2.0 release.

Changelog:

1.0.1 - See release notes at http://bangarangkde.wordpress.com/1-0-1-release-notes/

1.0 - See release notes at http://bangarangkde.wordpress.com/1-0-release-notes/

1.0 RC - See release notes at http://bangarangkde.wordpress.com/1-0rc-release-notes/

1.0 beta 3 - See release notes at http://bangarangkde.wordpress.com/1-0beta3-release-notes/

1.0 beta 2 - See release notes at http://bangarangkde.wordpress.com/1-0beta2-release-notes

1.0 beta - Most features on the 1.0 feature list implemented. Several rounds of bug fixing and refinement are required. The 1.0 feature list can be found at http://gitorious.org/bangarang/pages/Home.

1.0 alpha A1 - Updated to try to address compiler and link errors on Debian. Thanks for your help testing!

 Option: disable audio/video

 by H00K on: Jul 27 2010

So far Bangarang seems like a really media player and I probably use it equally as often as Dragon (and SMplayer only when those two don't work good enough).

What bothers me though is that I only use it for playing video, so when the 'audio' tag opens every time I start Bangarang it takes me one click more to make it usable.

Could you please make an option in the settings for the user to chose whether he would like to see audio, video or both tabs presented?

Thanks for the feedback! I'll have the app remember the state of the selected Audio/Video tab.

(grr - it's taking forever for my replacement laptop to arrive so I can continue working on 2.0) :-)

 IMDB and CDDB import

 by H00K on: Jul 28 2010

After tagging a few movies from my collection in Bangarang, I remembered it'd be a lot cooler if it could automatically fetch the data from IMDB (or CDDB for audio).
